Basketball Recap: Fremd Extends Winning Streak to Three

Fremd waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 61-42 win over the Central Rockets. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Rockets are ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Central still got an impressive performance from Jacob Johnson, who posted 12 points and three steals. Patrick Shell was another key player, going 5 for 11 en route to 11 points.

Fremd's victory bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Central, they moved to 13-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Fremd will be taking part in a tournament against Deerfield at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Fremd knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 contests -- so hopefully Deerfield likes a good challenge. As for Central, they will take on Mundelein in a tournament on Monday.
