Softball Game Preview: Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes vs. Farmington Farmers

The Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes will face off against the Farmington Farmers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Abingdon/Avon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Abingdon/Avon earned a 6-2 win over Princeville. The victory continues a trend for the Tornadoes in their matchups with the Princes: they've now won six in a row.

Addy Onion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.

At the plate, Taylor Ford was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Myli Webber was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Abingdon/Avon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Farmington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 12-2 win. That's two games straight that the Farmers have won by exactly ten runs.

Abingdon/Avon's victory bumped their record up to 11-16. As for Farmington, their win bumped their record up to 15-10.

Abingdon/Avon was able to grind out a solid victory over Farmington when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Farmers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
