Baseball Game Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. Beckville Bearcats

Overton is 2-8 against Beckville since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Mustangs will welcome the Bearcats at 5:00 p.m. The last three games Overton has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Overton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Gary. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly two runs.

Landon Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Overton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Zalman, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Beckville waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 5-1.

Aiden Brantley was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Braxton Bullock was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Overton is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Beckville, they pushed their record up to 23-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Overton skirted past Beckville 12-11 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Bearcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
