League recap: Brookings moves into state Top 25

Eastern South Dakota recap November 5, 2013

Brookings was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after falling to Riggs. The Bobcats came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.

Harrisburg was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in Eastern South Dakota. The Tigers vanquished Huron 27-20 earlier in the week.

Yankton's Mason Strahl and JJ Hejna led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Strahl has thrown for 1,132 yards this season, while Hejna has 38 catches for 821 yards. Mitchell's Mitch Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 518.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Governors and Harrisburg. Riggs comes into the matchup ranked sixth in the state, while Brandon White's team ranks 20th.

Watertown added to the longest winning streak in Eastern South Dakota this week by beating Douglas, 54-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Arrows.
