Basketball Recap: Edgewood Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Edgewood unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a blow against The First Academy Royals, falling 66-15. While losing is never fun, the Red Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Royals are ranked 20th).

Despite the loss, Edgewood still got an impressive performance from Da'Varriea Robertson, who went 6 for 8 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Edgewood's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3. As for The First Academy, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Edgewood will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for The First Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-39 victory against Hampton on the 21st.
