Softball Recap: West Springfield Picks Up Sixth Straight Win on the Road

West Springfield had won six straight on the road, but on Thursday they bumped their record up to 17-4 to make it seven. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Alexandria City Titans. Considering the Spartans have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Andrea Yagui looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, West Springfield got a big performance out of Becky Stuart, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Those two hits gave Stuart a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Sutton, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

As for Alexandria City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

On Alexandria City's side, Maggie Miller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Miller a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, Alexandria City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Steedman, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As of now, neither West Springfield nor the Titans have any future games scheduled.
