Gonzaga Prep is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 16th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They fell 14-9 to Central Valley. One positive for the Bullpups, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Kate Van Loben Sels was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Taryn Barbieri, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Even though they lost, Gonzaga Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Shadle Park not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 27, 2024. Everything went their way against Cheney as Shadle Park made off with a 24-5 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Highlanders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
McKenzie Duncan made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Duncan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Bethany Rinas was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Abby Smith was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Gonzaga Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Shadle Park, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Gonzaga Prep might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Shadle Park in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can Gonzaga Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
