Softball Game Preview: Benton Central Bison vs. South Newton Rebels

The Benton Central Bison will head out to take on the South Newton Rebels at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Benton Central came up short against Carroll on Thursday, falling 18-5.

Julianna Sibray made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday South Newton sidestepped Milford for a 6-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rebels.

Briley Iseminger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cora Groover, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Lizzie Corbett was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

Benton Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for South Newton, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Benton Central might still be hurting after the 18-4 loss they got from South Newton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bison avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
