Softball Game Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Leavitt Hornets

The Morse Shipbuilders will take on the Leavitt Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Monday, Morse didn't have quite enough to beat Erskine Academy and fell 8-7. The Shipbuilders have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Leavitt strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Medomak Valley. The two-run effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Hailey Cyr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Reese Bilodeau was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Leavitt's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Morse, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Morse might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Leavitt in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Shipbuilders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
