The Liberty Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Dublin Gaels at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Liberty barely beat Mountain House the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went Liberty's way against Mountain House on Thursday as Liberty made off with a 7-1 victory.
Miles Cornell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Chayce Formosa was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Amaral, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Liberty hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Dublin put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Arroyo by a score of 4-1. While the Gaels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Matthew Phelps made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Phelps was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other pitching news, Willie Maya tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brendan Moddelmog, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Elijah McNeal was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Liberty pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Dublin, their record now sits at 6-0.
Liberty's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. Liberty has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dublin, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Liberty continue to outrun the ball?
Liberty skirted past Dublin 4-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Liberty since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
