Baseball Game Preview: Skyline Thunderbirds vs. Ellinwood Eagles

The Skyline Thunderbirds will square off against the Ellinwood Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Skyline lost 16-1 to Inman on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Ellinwood is still winless after their match against Thomas More Prep-Marian on Tuesday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monarchs.

Cohen Gunn put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Gunn wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Banks Jacobs, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was Jacobs' first of the season.

Skyline's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Ellinwood, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Skyline took their victory against Ellinwood in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Thunderbirds repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
