Baseball Recap: Imperial Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Imperial ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Clairemont Chieftains. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2018.

The team relied heavily on Anthony Guardado, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Gastelum, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Imperial moved to 10-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Clairemont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Imperial will host Southwest EC at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Clairemont, they will be playing at home against Otay Ranch at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chieftains 2.4, the Mustangs 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
