Basketball Game Preview: Kingman Eagles vs. Cheney Cardinals

Kingman hasn't had much luck against Cheney recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Kingman Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Cheney Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Kingman turned things around against Medicine Lodge on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Indians 44-41.

Meanwhile, Cheney had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 54-20 win over the Demons. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Demons are ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cheney pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Kingman, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.

Kingman came up short against Cheney in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 43-30. Can Kingman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
