Basketball Recap: Berkeley Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 23-23 at halftime, Berkeley was not quite Goose Creek's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Goose Creek Gators. The Stags have struggled against the Gators recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Berkeley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amani Mccray went 5 of 10 en route to 10 points and six boards. Mccray is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Madison Thomas, who posted nine points and three steals.

Goose Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubrey Downey, who scored 13 points. Celeste Griffin was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Berkeley's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Goose Creek, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.

Berkeley is taking a road trip to take on Wando at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Wando has won seven straight at home, while Berkeley won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Goose Creek, they will host Lucy Beckham at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lucy Beckham has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
