Basketball Recap: Cholla Drops Season-High Score on Sahuarita

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cholla). They blew past the Sahuarita Mustangs 88-50 on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Chargers also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2023.

Cholla's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Payne, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 assists. Payne is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Alexis Saenz was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Payne wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Cholla was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Sahuarita still got an impressive performance from Josh Levelle, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Levelle a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Thomas Naylor, who posted seven points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for Cholla and bumps their season record up to 11-3. As for Sahuarita, they dropped their record down to 8-12 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Cholla didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 86-32 victory against Amphitheater on the 23rd. As for Sahuarita, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 79-43 defeat against Palo Verde on the 23rd.
