Basketball Recap: Western Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Western Wildcats took a blow against the Tampa Catholic Crusaders, falling 56-29. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Crusaders are ranked 64th).

Ashley Knox continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Tampa Catholic, going 7 of 14 on her way to 19 points and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Knox has scored at least a third of Tampa Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Grimsley, who posted ten points.

Western has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Tampa Catholic, they moved to 8-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Western will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Dillard at 6:00 p.m. on January 8th. As for Tampa Catholic, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-55 defeat against San Jose Prep on the 30th.
