Softball Recap: Del Mar Dons vs. Pioneer Mustangs
Del Mar extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They came up short against the Pioneer Mustangs, falling 12-2. Niarah Aimonetti made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Phatima Salto-Alvarez also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
As for Pioneer, their win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-13. Considering they have won six games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Pioneer's side, Gina Scripoch made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. Scripoch has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
