Basketball Recap: DSST: Green Valley Ranch Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

DSST: Green Valley Ranch and Coal Ridge squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but DSST: Green Valley Ranch had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Coal Ridge Titans by a score of 46-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raptors have suffered since January 25, 2024.

Despite the loss, DSST: Green Valley Ranch still got an impressive performance from Skyyaire Russell, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 24 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Russell a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tong Bot, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Leading Coal Ridge to victory were Ben Simons and Alex Cornejo. Simons dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds, while Cornejo went 5-for-11 on his way to 13 points and six boards. The match was Simons' third in a row with at least 15 points. Ethan Sanchez was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

DSST: Green Valley Ranch's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Coal Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
