Softball Recap: Fort Campbell Comes Up Short

After flying high against West Creek last Monday, Fort Campbell came back down to earth. Fort Campbell fell just short of the Northeast Eagles by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 9-6.

Baylee Backes stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Ryleigh Watry was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Fort Campbell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fort Campbell has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. The victory made it two in a row for Northeast and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Fort Campbell will venture away from home to challenge Hopkinsville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northeast, they will welcome Clarksville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
