Basketball Game Preview: Elkins Tigers vs. Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers

The Elkins Tigers will take on the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Elkins is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Robert C. Byrd just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 44-42.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Buckhannon-Upshur, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 63-51 victory over Lewis County on Thursday.

Buckhannon-Upshur's win came from a few key players Elkins will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jerin Westfall, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in steals (four). Brody Mcdaniels was another key player, going 6 of 12 en route to 19 points and five boards.

Buckhannon-Upshur's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Elkins, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Things could have been worse for Elkins, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-39 loss to Buckhannon-Upshur in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Elkins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
