Lakewood had lost four games at home, but after bumping their record up to 8-10 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Meridian Trojans. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Katie Krueger made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Riley Pevny was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nikki Blodgett, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Lakewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meridian only posted a batting average of .286.
As for Meridian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Meridian's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Schultz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Makayla Tolsma also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As of now, neither Lakewood nor Meridian have any future games scheduled.
