Basketball Recap: Cotopaxi Drops Season-High Score on Miami-Yoder

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cotopaxi). They walked away with a 49-41 win over the Miami-Yoder Buffaloes on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Pirates, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cotopaxi got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sophie Eggleston out in front who posted 27 points and eight steals. With that strong performance, Eggleston is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Another player making a difference was Allisyn Gasseling, who earned 14 points and six steals.

Miami-Yoder's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madi Frunk, who put up nine points. Frunk is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played. Joanna Cabrera was another key player, putting up four points and seven boards.

Cotopaxi has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.2 points on average over those games. As for Miami-Yoder, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Cotopaxi will challenge Lake City Community at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Miami-Yoder, they will take on Non Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
