Softball Game Preview: Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds vs. St. Mary Catholic Zephyrs

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary Catholic Zephyrs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Iola-Scandinavia's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three games, but Tuesday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Iola-Scandinavia managed to slip by Amherst the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Thunderbirds lost 7-0 to the Falcons on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Iola-Scandinavia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Maus, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

St. Mary Catholic couldn't beat Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Zephyrs fell just short of the Resorters by a score of 6-5. The Zephyrs' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Scarlett Reichenbacher and Sammi Weis did some serious damage despite the final result: Reichenbacher went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Weis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Iola-Scandinavia's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for St. Mary Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Iola-Scandinavia skirted past St. Mary Catholic 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbirds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
