Basketball Recap: Elkhart Christian Academy Starts Season with Win Against Concord

Elkhart Christian Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They snuck past the Concord Minutemen with a 47-42 victory on Saturday. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 73-21 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Elkhart Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mia Hibbard out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Kyla Yordy, who posted 11 points and six steals.

Despite the loss, Concord still got an impressive performance from Hayden Minder, who went 5-for-10 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Shiloh Smith was another key player, putting up eight points.

Concord's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Elkhart Christian Academy will head out on the road to take on Bethany Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Eagles their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Concord, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-24 defeat against Elkhart on the 11th.
