Basketball Recap: Vallivue Takes a Loss

Vallivue suffered their closest defeat since December 21, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Bishop Kelly Knights by a score of 55-53. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-52 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Vallivue lost, don't look at Xander Wilson. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Koby Perez, who went 5-for-6 en route to 11 points.

Even though they lost, Vallivue smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Vallivue's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Bishop Kelly, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Vallivue will face off against Columbia at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Columbia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Vallivue likes a good challenge. As for Bishop Kelly, they will challenge Emmett at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Bishop Kelly's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten matchups.
