Baseball Recap: Upper Sandusky Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Upper Sandusky ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Wynford Royals 8-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-3 on Wednesday.

Justin Heilman was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Upper Sandusky let Kaleb Francis and Kasen Gottfried run wild. Francis went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one double, and one RBI, while Gottfried went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Gottfried a new career-high.

Upper Sandusky kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Upper Sandusky's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Wynford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.

Coming up, Upper Sandusky will venture away from home to take on Edison at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 3.7, the Chargers 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Wynford, they will host Carey at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
