Basketball Game Preview: Alta Hawks vs. Olympus Titans

The Alta Hawks will square off against the Olympus Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Olympus took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Alta, who comes in off a win.

Alta is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Highland: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Alta blew Highland out of the water with a 52-22 final score. The Hawks pushed the score to 42-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rams had little chance of recovering from.

Alta can attribute much of their success to Alia Baldassano, who posted 20 points, and Quincy Kegel, who scored 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kegel has scored at least a third of Alta's points. Hailey Bodell also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Meanwhile, Olympus played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 66-36 loss at the hands of Brighton. The contest marked the Titans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Alta will need focus on slowing down Joss Baker, one of several Olympus players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Baker is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Tessa Cromar, who put up three points and three steals.

Alta is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Olympus, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Alta and Olympus were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but Alta came up empty-handed after a 38-37 loss. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Baker, who went 8 for 15 en route to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.
