Baseball Game Preview: Palos Verdes Sea Kings vs. Palm Desert Aztecs

The Palos Verdes Sea Kings will take on the Palm Desert Aztecs at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Palos Verdes managed to slip by Redondo Union the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Sea Kings lost 10-3 to the Sea Hawks on Friday. Sea Kings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Sea Hawks since on Friday.

Will Zane and Franco Correa did some serious damage despite the final result: Zane scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Correa scored a run while going 3-for-4. That run marked the first that Correa scored this season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Palm Desert ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Rancho Mirage 2-1. The Aztecs haven't had any issues with the Rattlers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Jake Brande spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Palm Desert's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mason Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Palm Desert hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.

Palm Desert's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Palos Verdes, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-12.
