Softball Recap: Emerson Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pompton Lakes, Emerson was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Hasbrouck Heights Aviators. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cavaliers have posted since April 6th.

Sophia Centeno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brielle Schumeyer, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Julia Seretis also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The win got Emerson back to even at 10-10. As for Hasbrouck Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.

Looking ahead, Emerson will take on Weehawken at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.17 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hasbrouck Heights, they will square off against St. Mary at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
