Baseball Game Preview: Menifee County Wildcats vs. Bourbon County Colonels

The Menifee County Wildcats will head out to square off against the Bourbon County Colonels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Menifee County will be strutting in after a win while Bourbon County will be coming in after a loss.

While Menifee County's victory against Robertson County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Black Devils on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 20, 2024.

Lincoln Rogers was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 16 batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI. He has become a key player for Menifee County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 4-22 otherwise.

Rogers wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Kelly, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double was Kelly's first of the season.

Bourbon County might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-2 to Pendleton County, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Colonels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Menifee County's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-22. As for Bourbon County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-22.

Menifee County might still be hurting after the 13-4 loss they got from Bourbon County in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
