Softball Recap: Griffith Institute Gets the Win

Griffith Institute took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Olean, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Griffins skirted past the Huskies 11-10. This was payback for the Griffins, who suffered a 20-8 loss the last time these two teams met.

Grace Ricci was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierstin Crone, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Griffith Institute was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Griffith Institute and bumps their season record up to 7-3. As for Olean, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Griffith Institute will be playing in front of their home fans against Tonawanda at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Timberwolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.2 runs per game on average), something the Griffins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Olean, they will head out to square off against Dunkirk at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
