Softball Recap: Helena Huskies vs. Chelsea Hornets
Helena fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Chelsea on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chelsea Hornets by a score of 8-7. If the Huskies were looking for revenge after losing 8-7 to the Hornets when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Macie Brashears was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Draiss, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Helena's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-8-2. As for Chelsea, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8-1.
Helena and Chelsea should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. Helena will face off against Pelham at 4:30 p.m. on April 2nd up 151 places (18 vs. 169). Helena's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Chelsea's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Meanwhile, Chelsea (ranked 24th) will meet Good Hope (ranked 98th) at 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
