Basketball Recap: Whittell Starts off Right with Win over Encompass Academy

Whittell had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the EnCompass Academy Explorers 59-22. The Warriors pushed the score to 52-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Explorers had no chance of recovering from.

Whittell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matyas Dragoun led the charge by dropping a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Michael Lezama-Demazo, who went 8-for-14 to rack up 21 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Looking ahead, Whittell will take on Coral Academy of Science - Reno in a tournament on Friday. EnCompass Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Warriors' matchup: after the Warriors face off against the Falcons, they'll take on enCompass Academy again at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
