Softball Game Preview: Declo Hornets vs. Firth Cougars

The Declo Hornets will head out to square off against the Firth Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Declo will be strutting in after a win while Firth will be coming in after a loss.

Declo barely beat Soda Springs the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 10-0 victory on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hornets considering their one-run performance the match before.

Meanwhile, Firth came up short against Ririe on Tuesday and fell 21-16. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 10-4 in the first period.

Meg Leslie was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Kieleigh Bales was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Firth and nudges their season record down to 2-7. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Declo, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Declo beat Firth 12-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
