Baseball Game Preview: Westerville North Warriors vs. Big Walnut Golden Eagles

The Westerville North Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the Big Walnut Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Westerville North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Westerville North will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Westland on Monday. The Warriors blew past the Cougars 18-3. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Ethan Robinson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Westerville North is undefeated when Robinson allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Robinson was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Westerville North got a massive performance out of Dane Blackstone, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Blackstone a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emmerson Mason, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Westerville North always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Big Walnut entered their tilt with Worthington Kilbourne on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Wolves.

Westerville North has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Big Walnut, their record is now 8-3.

Westerville North might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Big Walnut in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
