Basketball Recap: Pomona Falls Despite Big Games from Jayden Morine and Dj Hawkins

It was a proper cat-fight when Pomona took on Jefferson Academy on Tuesday. The Pomona Panthers fell 67-54 to the Jefferson Academy Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Jaguars are ranked 68th).

Pomona's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Dj Hawkins, who went 10 of 25 on his way to 31 points and five rebounds, and Jayden Morine, who went 6 for 11 en route to 16 points. Hawkins' evening made it 14 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

It was another big night for Jimeto Orji, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 17 boards for Jefferson Academy. Orji is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Riley Prevost, who went 5 of 8 en route to 15 points.

Pomona has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Jefferson Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

Pomona has already played their next game, a 46-36 victory against Adams City on the 17th. As for Jefferson Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 100-72 loss against Kent Denver on the 16th.
