Softball Recap: Zoie Bernard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Benedict at Auburndale over Chattanooga Christian

St. Benedict at Auburndale suffered their closest defeat since March 27th on Tuesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-2 to the Chattanooga Christian Chargers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Chargers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Jorja Wheeler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, St. Benedict at Auburndale saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoie Bernard, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Benedict at Auburndale and nudges their season record down to 28-7. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs. As for Chattanooga Christian, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-10.

Coming up, St. Benedict at Auburndale will face off against Lipscomb Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Chattanooga Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
