Softball Recap: James Monroe Takes a Loss

If James Monroe was riding high fresh off their 20-9 takedown of Graham on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mavericks fell just short of the PikeView Panthers by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday. The contest marked the Mavericks' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Bryleigh Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

James Monroe now has a losing record of 2-3. As for PikeView, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-7.

Looking ahead, James Monroe will square off against Midland Trail at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for PikeView, they will take on Mingo Central at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
