Basketball Recap: Turral Berry Key Part of a Team Effort in Panthers Win

After losing to Lake Gibson the last time they met, Vanguard decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Vanguard Panthers walked away with a 69-57 victory over the Lake Gibson Braves on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Vanguard's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Turral Berry, who posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was Brian Glover, who had 17 points.

Lake Gibson's loss came despite strong showings from Auree Lewis and A'Darrion Willis. Lewis earned 17 points, while Willis put up 15 points. Willis' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Epps, who posted five points.

Vanguard's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Lake Gibson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vanguard and Lakeland Christian will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Gibson will take on Grandview Prep in a holiday battle at at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Grandview Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.1 points per game this season.
