Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Apopka's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Apopka put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They never let the Bishop Moore Hornets get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Darters, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Ava Millspaugh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Mia Aeschilman looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Ava Gonzalez and Taylor Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double. Another player making a difference was Skyla Durand, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Apopka hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in seven consecutive matches.

Apopka is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Bishop Moore, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-15.

Looking ahead, Apopka will be playing in front of their home fans against Timber Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Blue Darters have won four straight at home, while the Wolves won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Bishop Moore does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
