Soccer Game Preview: Nevada Union vs. River Valley

The Nevada Union Miners will head out to challenge the River Valley Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Nevada Union's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Nevada Union is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Roseville on Friday. Nevada Union fell just short of Roseville by a score of 1-0. While losing is never fun, the Miners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 969th, while the Tigers are ranked 326th).

Meanwhile, River Valley kept a clean sheet against Yuba City on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Honkers by a score of 2-0. While the Falcons didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-12-2), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Alex Navarette and Miguel Ortiz scored both of River Valley's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

Nevada Union's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5-1. As for River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 6-1-1.

Nevada Union beat River Valley 5-3 in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Nevada Union since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
