Football Recap: Sweeny Bulldogs vs. Van Vleck Leopards
Sweeny was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 43-30 to the Van Vleck Leopards. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Leopards apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.
Corey Austin had a dynamite game for Van Vleck, rushing for 202 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards and a touchdown. Austin's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Chris Martinez, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns.
Sweeny's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Van Vleck, the win snapped their losing streak at four games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-1 record.
Sweeny will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Stafford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Van Vleck, they will take on The Woodlands Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games.
