Recap: Northwest Rankin Cougars vs. Oak Grove Warriors
On Friday, The Northwest Rankin Cougars faced the Oak Grove Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Northwest Rankin took a serious blow against Oak Grove, falling 45-15. Northwest Rankin has struggled against Oak Grove recently, as their matchup on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Tajii Burkett had an outrageously good game for Oak Grove as he rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also picked up 45 receiving yards. Burkett really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Maddox, who threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
Northwest Rankin's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Oak Grove, their win was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Northwest Rankin will challenge Petal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Petal is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Oak Grove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pearl at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
