The Spring Grove Rockets will face off against the Susquehannock Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Spring Grove has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Susquehannock will arrive with five straight victories.
Eastern York hit Spring Grove with a six-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rockets came up short against the Golden Knights, falling 13-3.
Andrina Camilleri was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Makennah Stiles was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Susquehannock). Their pitcher stepped up to hand York Suburban a 15-0 shutout on Friday. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Ella Wetzel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Michelle Morris was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mia Wetzel, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
Susquehannock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Susquehannock pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
Spring Grove couldn't quite get it done against Susquehannock in their previous meeting on April 9th as they fell 4-1. Will the Rockets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
