Basketball Recap: Perry Comes Up Short

Perry lost to Boardman back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Panthers took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Perry lost, don't look at Nico Martelli. Despite the final result, he went 11-for-15 en route to 25 points. Martelli is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 6-3 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nasir Foster, who posted 12 points.

Perry's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Boardman, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-14.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Perry will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Twinsburg at 7:00 p.m. on March 3. The Tigers have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Boardman, they will host East Liverpool at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
