Basketball Recap: North Charleston Triumphs

North Charleston won the last time they faced Hanahan, and Rashard Clement did his part to make sure it happened again. The North Charleston Cougars claimed a resounding 81-27 win over the Hanahan Hawks thanks in part to Clement, who went 9 for 17 en route to 20 points and five steals. He has become a key player for North Charleston: the team is 10-2 when he posts at least three steals, but 2-6 otherwise.

The team also got some help courtesy of Marco Simpson, who posted six points along with seven boards and six assists. Those seven rebounds gave him a new career-high.

Despite the defeat, Hanahan saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tripp Gallus scored two points in addition to eight boards and four blocks. Gallus has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last 12 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Behan, who earned four points.

North Charleston's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Hanahan, they dropped their record down to 4-14 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

North Charleston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 78-43 defeat against Oceanside Collegiate Academy on the 1st. Hanahan has also already played their next contest, a 72-34 loss against Orangeburg-Wilkinson on the 1st.
