Basketball Recap: Leadore Takes a Loss

Leadore lost against Challis on February 5th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Leadore Mustangs were outmatched by the Challis Vikings and fell 61-30. The Mustangs were down 43-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Leadore saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dane Piippo went 6-for-13 to rack up 14 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Piippo is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 14 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Mayo, who posted six points along with five steals and three blocks.

Challis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brayden Ollar, who went 8-for-14 en route to 20 points and seven steals. Challis is 6-2 when Ollar posts 15 or more points, but 7-9 otherwise. Jacen Farr was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Leadore's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Challis, their victory bumped their record up to 13-11.

As of now, neither Leadore nor Challis have any future games scheduled.
