Basketball Recap: Hamilton Southeastern Falls Despite Big Games from Landon Osswald and Braeden Totton

Hamilton Southeastern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 53-43 to the Mt. Vernon Marauders. The Royals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Marauders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Hamilton Southeastern had strong showings from Braeden Totton, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds, and Landon Osswald, who went 5 for 7 en route to 11 points and five boards. Jack Jacobs was another key player, putting up seven points.

It was another big night for Luke Ertel, who went 5 for 11 en route to 20 points and eight rebounds for Mt. Vernon. That makes it five consecutive games in which Ertel has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Daugherty, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Hamilton Southeastern now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Mt. Vernon, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

When Hamilton Southeastern and Mt. Vernon next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Hamilton Southeastern will try to stop Noblesville's six-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon will challenge New Castle and their three-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
