Baseball Recap: Berwyn/Cicero Morton Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Addison Trail Blazers on Thursday, sneaking past 6-5. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Blazers on Tuesday, they had to take a 10-8 defeat.

Daniel Gross tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Johangel Castrillo and Gabriel Herrera did most of the damage at the plate: Castrillo went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Herrera got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Herrera a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Xavier Valdez, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Berwyn/Cicero Morton's record now sits at 4-12. As for Addison Trail, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-9.

Looking ahead, Berwyn/Cicero Morton will host Glenbard West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Addison Trail, they will venture away from home to take on Proviso West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blazers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
