Baseball Recap: Wildwood's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Wildwood dropped their record down to 8-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They lost 22-3 to the Pennsville Memorial Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-2 back in April.

Trevor Troiano was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

As for Pennsville Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Pennsville Memorial, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

On Pennsville Memorial's side, Chase Burchfield made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burchfield has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Pennsville Memorial got a massive performance out of Logan Streitz, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Streitz a new career-high. Jeff Wagner was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wildwood will welcome Cape May County Tech at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.33 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pennsville Memorial, they will host Millville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
